Pearly Joubert, President , Women in Synthetic Biology Africa (WiSBA)
Pearly is currently in her final year of an MSc in Neuroscience at the University of Cape Town. She plans to pursue a PhD in Biomolecular Science and Engineering next year. As a committed advocate for women in science and leadership, Pearly is the president of both the Women in Synthetic Biology Africa (WiSBA) and the Student Women Economic Empowerment Program (SWEEP). Additionally, Pearly serves as the Global Biotech Revolution Ambassador for Africa.
Her passion for women's empowerment and health has led her to co-found uMama, a venture dedicated to providing midwives with personalised, culturally relevant nutritional information for pregnant and postpartum mothers across Africa. Pearly's vision is to create a significant social impact on the African continent by fostering an ecosystem that nurtures and supports women leaders.
Pearly will be discussing the Synthetic Biology scene in Africa, the gender gap in African biotech and challenges on the African continent.
