The Orkney International Science Festival, running from 4–10 September 2025 across Kirkwall and the wider Orkney Islands, marks its 35th anniversary this year. Since its launch in 1991, it has grown into one of the UK’s longest‑running science festivals .

Festival Highlights

A vibrant mix of talks, workshops, exhibitions, walks, music, food, and family events spread across stunning historic venues like St Magnus Cathedral, the Pickaquoy Centre (including a themed pool show), and the Ness of Brodgar. Featured events from past years include dramatic indoor lightning demonstrations with “Arcs and Sparks,” the Musical Tesla Coil, lunar exploration talks, and marine biology sessions like seagrass conservation
