The potential uses for Biotechnology in food, pharmaceuticals, fuel and waste management encouraged Allan to undertake this MSc.
For his MSc, Allan Kisubi has built on his interest in bioprocessing and aims to use this knowledge to move onto a PhD.
Why did you decide to undertake this MSc?
I’m interested in the alternative use of bio processing/processes to conventional chemical methods. The potential of biotechnology in the industrial manufacture of food, pharmaceuticals, fuel and waste management (to mention but a few), points to a future of resource abundance, if properly understood, appreciated and harnessed. I want to be a part of this, in any capacity possible.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I would like to do a PhD in fermentation or related biotech process like downstream processing. Ultimately, I would like to deepen my knowledge and skills within the biotech sector through further education and employment roles.
What has been your favourite part of the MSc to date?
Without a doubt, Applied Biocatalysis and Bioprocessing.
Where/what do you think the next innovation in IB will be?
There’s plenty of possibilities but I’ll give two. Production of volatile fatty acids on an industrial scale to rival the petrol-chemical industry as well biodegradation of plastics on an industrial scale
What is an interesting fact about you / what do you enjoy doing away from your studies?
I like getting into a good Netflix documentary or series. I also love formula 1. It’s the best sport in the world!
